On January 28 2006, during a walk with several Akitas, Shibas and Malamutes, Toya fought with a Shiba named Tyco.
The reason for the fight remains unclear, but there was no intention on Toya's side to actually harm Tyco. Shaking another dog by the neck is a dog's way to scold another.
Nobody could see it coming. Suddenly, we just heard Tyco screaming and Toya growling. Tyco was in Toya's mouth. 6 people or so, grabbed Toya and started to jerk him away from Tyco, everyone was yelling and shouting. By pulling Toya, who was still holding Tyco, Tyco got a small wound in his neck and a so-called whiplash. Which is not Toya's fault but due to people pulling at him. If someone tries to jerk a piece of paper from your hand, it rips. That is not your fault but that of the person who's jerking.
When Jesse and I finally managed to open Toya's muzzle, Tyco's owner Ronny put his face in front of Toya who struck out to grab Tyco and got Ronny's lower lip instead. Consequence: the lip had to be stitched with 14 staples, insurance case.
Tyco's owners seem not to blame me, but someone else abuses this incident for unknown goals. Guess she's just a mean person. She talks of a fight about life or death, heroism, bloodfest, etc. People who read that may think that Toya is actually the bloodthirsty monster she describes him as. I assure you that he never meant to kill Tyco or bite Ronny. The panic around him, thus human failure, caused him to go mad and not let go of Tyco. We failed, not the dogs. Do not believe that woman. Toya is not a monster!
Both Shiba and Akita Inu are not made to get along with other dogs of the same sex. Confrontations can end in a fight. These things can happen with these breeds. But they're still dogs and they don't usually fight to the death. Neither did these two.

PS If Toya had really meant to hurt Tyco and attack Ronny, Tyco would be dead and Ronny would no longer have a face and if this would have been the case, I'd not be talking about it in public. Toya would have been euthanized and I wouldn't be in the mood to update this site.
